The k-Lite media pack is available in a "Corporate" version that only includes freeware codecs - http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

I also use CCCP Codec pack - http://cccp-project.net/ - not sure of the status of the codecs included in here, but does include a codec for .MKV playback for your HiDef sources.
