Right i can get a new pc, i sorta have an idea of what i want but i just need some opinions... i got £700 and this is what i sorta had in mind:

AMD 64 bit 3500+ processor
Geforece 6800 gt/6600 gt GFX card, i dunno which one
one gig of ram
etc

i just need some guidance really

I'd strongly recommend getting an SLi motherboard which means you can run 2 PCI Express Graphics cards at once.
They're not a lot more expensive than the non-SLi mobos.

And if you can afford to, get the 6800GT or even better the 6800 Ultra that's better than the 6600. And then in a few months time after you've saved some more pennies you can plug in a 2nd matching graphics card.

Get at least one Gb of RAM - many games now will benefit from 1.5 or 2Gb.

Half Life 2's Lost Coast will require 2Gb to load in all the textures at highest quality settings so in 6 months or a year more games will be out with similar requirements.

Anyway with £700 to spend you should end up with a beast of a machine!!!

Yeah, dont bother with a 6600, you got enough money there to get a top notch comp, make sure you get the 939 pin, and try and get the venice core, as i think thats the best one. And all of what extreme said.

Other than that you cud give me the money and i'll sell you my top of the range computer sitting in my loft, a C64.

I've been given £1,000 from my parents... to build a pc.

I did send Yoda a email as he is very good at finding things cheap but as I say I am looking for a gaming machine, nothing else just gaming.

But as I am kinda noob on PC specs and stuff I have no idea what to do oh well pffft thats me for you.
