Some files seem to have disappeared from my HD. Nothing overly important. It was some MS Word files for work. I certainly didnt delete them, but they are not there anymore I cannot see anything else, at the moment, that has gone.

The only other noticable thing going on with the puter is that booting up is taking a little longer than it used to. After the Windows XP scroll bar thingy, it has always went to a black screen for a couple of seconds, then the blue windows sign in screen. That black screen has gone from a couple of seconds to around 10.

Is my HD on its last legs? Is there anyway to confirm this?

Its around 12 months since its last format, would it be needing one? Could the HD have gotten corrupted and lost my MS Word files?

TIA

Did those files dissapear when you moved them to a different folder? If they did was it because you copied and pasted them or dragged them?

I would recommend running one of the diagnostic tools that you can get from your hard drives manufaturers website.
