I was playing tf2 yesterday night when i thought to myself can you shoot a gun in space.I was thinking would the gravity have a strange effect on the guns bullets and stuff like that.I looked for it on the web couldent find anything about it can anyone help.?

They need oxygen for the combustion of the powder. If, however, you did manage to launch a projectile (like a bullet) in space, as there is no friction, it would go, far, and fast. At least thats what I understand, or can deduce from what I know.

You would be propelled backwards due to conservation of energy and a big fat lack of friction. That is assuming you are standing outside with the gun.

Guns don't need oxygen to work. All the oxygen is already in the gunpowder.
You'd just start flying backwards unless you were standing on something. In which case chances are you'd never realise you were going backwards because you and whatever you are standing on weighs FAR mor than a bullet.

I would love to test loads of different weapons shooting them into space. my idea of a fun filled day. ohhh btw i was driveing around in an armored car with some millitary lads the last day man them machines are crazy how well they are built. and at them huge guns at the front of the car.
