Agreed, Ive been working on the map cycle today and have dropped district from it.

Currently the new cycle looks something like this:
emp_canyon
emp_oasis
emp_crossroads
emp_cyclopean
emp_badland
emp_duststorm
emp_escort
emp_gauntlet
emp_isle
emp_money
emp_railroad
emp_mvalley
emp_slaughtered
emp_streetsoffire
emp_ovi_canyon
emp_urbanchaos
emp_glycencity

theres some old officials, and three 3rd party (custom) maps. Once i have the maps sorted out on the FastDL server i will update the cycle ;]

Yes, i know some 3rd party maps were tested, but removing them just beause some people whined is not a good move. I suggest to add some more 3rd party maps to the server mapcycle for 1-2 weeks, and then start a public poll on forums.If more then 70%(imo) people will vote "yes" on a certain map , then it should be added to mapcycle. Some 3rd party maps are good to play from time to time , but not worth putting into mapcycle (like downhilljam), is there any way to add some little rockthevote option that can be turned on only by admin ( rtv after every map would be not good , beause it would require some 1-2 mins additional time after the game ends). Normal maps would be voteable as well, 6-10 maps randomly nominated (allowing players to nominate is not a good idea ,trust me)Rockthevoteable maps should be only set to "nextmaps" by admins, if players agree.

Some maps you should give a try /2nd chance

worth adding to mapcycle:
Atol (non-sinking version of sinking)
midbridge (that map was fun , people leaved because it was right after escort)
Plunge

Rockthevoteable :
Shadows(new releases are far better then b_1)
Badlands
Downhilljam
Also , if a new map is realesed , you should put into mapcycle for testing too.

Deciding what should and shouldn't be on the server has always proved challenging, particularly as just about every map is loved by some and hated by others. The criteria generally falls to:

- No betas that are still being fixed/modified. While I appreciate that bug detection and fixing needs to take place, we can't really spare the time to upload new versions and then admin the times it's on to see how the map is developing. As with the 'KM Balancer', we're happy to use it once it's mature but we'd rather not be a beta test server.

- Maps that get exploited and destroy the fun in the process are removed. Sinking is the classic example, it's gone and it won't be back till it's fixed.

- Maps that empty the server, a map that empties a server is clearly one that is not popular with a majority of people. While we're not in a server popularity contest, I certainly feel that it's the full complement of 40 players that gets the best out of the server.

- Maps that lag. In general not a problem (I love a team with 15 nuke tanks on money..) thanks to some beefy hardware, but low FPS and non-optimised designs are teh suck.

In general I think we aim to be a 'by the book' Empires server, popular maps with default game settings and sensible admin policy. Thus far people appear to have supported this by voting with their feet so I'd be loathed to change the formula.

ok ,so no plunge an shadows yet.

midbrige didnt empty the server, there were just a huge stack actions that made people leave.(Xroads lag like hell in middle ,but its still in mapcycle;p)

Also 2 things:

like i said before ,some people ,but not many ,can constantly whine about a map , but that doesnt mean the whole map suck.

Admins can dislike the map as well, and if so , the map is removed.
I want to make a fairy simple system that eliminates those 2 things, but leaving admins a final say and making normal players vote so we cn see what the whole community thinks. If the map is bugged/exploitable(sinking) then admin can just remove it and there will be no further testing it. (map can be tested again when the _r version is realesed)

I know it can take some time and work , but its better to do it than hear the players whining constantly about lack of new maps.

BTW : escort_b3 is one big exploiting so why is it still in if its "No betas that are still being fixed/modified. " and "Maps that get exploited and destroy the fun in the process are removed"

Escort is one big exploit (not just the beta one).

All standard maps are atleast playable imo, most people start whining on non commander maps and i usually dislike them too.

emp_oasis looks horrible (pretty much single color and the water is horrible/buggy).

Also emp_railroad is exploitable .

I really hate emp_valley (not mvalley), the map is too small and not really well done .

Oh and emp_money back on normal map cycle .

In my system ,conquest maps would be only rockthevoteable ,same for money.

I agree on oasis an valley they are worthless maps .

Hows railroads exploitable?

Well if you insist... You can 9th mine vehicles out of the map like CV or APC and drive in the hills.

escort_beta3 isn't on the map cycle currently, the 2.1 version is. I just change to beta3 now and then because ppl keep asking for it, but it's still very controversial.

railroads, oasis and valley aren't on the map cycle either, they only get played when an admin puts them on for a little bit of change, which doesn't happen too often as those maps aren't that good.

Badlands has been on map cycle but got removed completely from the server (or at least from the admin plugin). It wasn't that good anyway.

As for money, well I don't like it, but I always put it on when I'm around just coz you heavy tank spamming noobs keep asking for it.

RTV and map vote aren't available because we don't have mani running on the emp server and imo we should keep it that way. RTV gets exploited too often and map vote gets only a few very popular maps played over and over again.
I think we should stick to a decent map cycle and some more maps put on by admins now and then.
I wouldn't mind to try some new maps, so if you have suggestions please post the link where to download it. But I agree with Corpse that we wouldn't like to have lots of buggy beta maps on the server. And no noob vehicle training maps or similar crap please.

Thats why there is an option to make a "gap" so map can be voted again only 5-6 maps after last play( this value can change ofc ).The problem is admins are not always on , and changing nextmap just because 2 guys out of 40 says to change it , That is very bad. Also like i said before rtv maps should be picked RANDOMLY(out of rtv maps , not mapcycle ones , if there is a tie , nextmap is the nextmap from mapcycle) (so no exploiting and no nominating) but still, the "gap" option will block the maps that were played in last 5-6 plays).

I agree on vehicle training ,that map is made for training server and clan servers, not pubs.

Badlands was far better than oasis and valley(which is the most crap map i ever saw in empires)

btw, read the posts carefully, i'd like some constructive critisism not just a "nono" because of exploit able system, that im trying to fix and make it usefull .
