MOTD Causes Crash

I'm having MOTD problems too. Whenever the MOTD is shown, the game freezes and I have to restart Empires.
The administrator has disabled public write access.

Chances are you have another application messing with Internet Explorer.

Valve use Internet Explorer for the MOTD pages. If you normally use IE to do your browsing, my thoughts are you've picked up a virus from a dodgy website (read porn site) and this is whats killing it.

I would recommend you switch to a better browser to do your browsing (Firefox) if you use IE and also getting some decent virus protection would be good too (AntiVir).

There's a download manager who's background process breaks MOTD, if you have one kill the process.
