Could be lots of things...
off the top of my head I would guess you have some kind of spyware hijacking explorer...
Or it could maybe be related to a dodgy codec you have if the explorer window contained films.

Ive run all the cleaners, spybot/adware and avast scan, picked up a few things but there gone now.
It happened around the time i used CCleaner, it got rid of 3.5gig worth of junk, so im guessing that it ditched something like an .ini file?

It broke big time, frezzed up on me, i restarted but kept crashing on the boot screen, tried getting it going in safe mode, no luck, so it had to be a format. I dont even want to think about all the stuff ive lost At least i backed up all my photos and music to disks the other week.
Look on the bright side, problem solved

ccleaner... It does just delete stuff... if there was something you needed it deleted then that would cause a problem.
I admit i do use it myself on occasion, but i do not recommend it.
3.5gig sounds like too much data to delete...

it does have a job... Software-enforced DEP can help prevent malicious code from taking advantage of exception-handling mechanisms in Windows. and your system is less secure without it.
