i left my computer to ilde on the desktop while out of the room. After 5 mins i come back and my screen was Orange and the computer was non-responsive. I reboot my computer. While loading XP, at the loading screen the computer turns itself off. I turn it on again, and half a sec it turns itself off. This happened for a few times, until i managed to get to the option of booting XP in safe mode, which i do, but it again turns itself off while loading windows. Now it just continually turns itself off half a sec after i turn the computer on.

I did that to my dads old comp with Xp running on it the only way to sort it is to reinstall Xp and Scrup the hard drive well the only way to my acknoladgment it is a pain in the arse but umm yeah good luck king

what do you mean orange screen? I can think of 2 things...
1) something fucked your windows driver and it dies when trying to initialise them
2) something has died in your hardware and the box just cuts-out to protect the other hardware or from an erroneous response
Both could be related to an orange screen if your GPU is involved (the unit itself or its drivers).
Testing:
Get a live Linux CD (Ubuntu is good) and attempt to boot. No installation of the OS is required. If its windows drivers the Linux OS should boot without problem or error message. If its hardware related the Linux OS is likely to kick up about it (there is a chance it will still boot) - watch for error messages.

If you're not seeing anything at all - no POST at all, then it could be the monitor on the fritz. Have you got another you could try or borrow one to try?

like husband says it could be your monitor/LCD is on the blink.
The only way to check your VDU is to plug it into something else (another computer / laptop).
But... as you got an orange screen I'm more inclined to think its a GPU failure.
The GPU gets initialised before any bios screens show themselves, so if its toast you probably wont get to the bios (let alone see it).
you could:
a) take out the GPU and try another in its place
b) try an on-board GPU (if you have one on your motherboard)
if its not the GPU (and you can check its working fine) then its probably your motherboard if it fails to get to the bios.
does it make any beeping sounds? Normally if something fails at that stage it gives out a "signal beep" to tell you what the problem is. GPU failure should have its own beep...

Hey slut,try this,may r may not work u have nuthin to lose plug your comp out,press the power on button to discharge ne electricity left in your comp.Open up your comp and remove your bios(cmos) battery,leavit for a minute or so and put the battery back in,plug the comp back in n try n boot up.this should reset your bios back to its default values.

found out the problem:
the psu is fecked......
tryed another one and everything fired up like normal... so now ordered a brand new psu...
