Digital out stopped working

Ater you double click on the speaker in the task bar you get a new window with controls for differnt audio connections for your pc.. Well my digital out control just went white and 'unclickable' as if the computer doesn't recognise i have a digital out.

It's the plug on my motherboard which im talking about. Not an extra soundcard.

Im having to settle for the hiss crackle and pop of the standard green audio out at the moment. Not fun.

Anyone got any suggestions as to whats happened?

I assume you're talking about a orange co-ax/optical out of your motherboard.

Reinstall the drivers would be my first move.

If it's built into the MB, then you need the drivers from the makers site. MB model?

Well i have a mini jack to 2 phono cable from my comp to a pair of powered roland monitor speakers.. And if i turn the master volume up above the second bar ( in windows ) i can clearly hear a hissing sound.. just static .. from the speakers while they aren't being used..

When i plug them into the digital out using one coax cbl i get much better sound quality (the master volume is redundent in this mode) and i can turn the WAVE and speakers up to full (loud enough to fill 2 of my houses) and only just hear a wisper of static which is maybe from my stereo (ok so im not totally energy conservative).

-----------

I checked that link out hubby and downloaded and installed the driver but when i restarted i get this message every time..

I checked on dll.com for the missing file but it said that it wasn't there for me to download. :/

If your OS install is more than 12 months old i would.

I recently killed explorer (which was cool, but the thing i was replacing it with decided to fail) so i just binned the whole lot and started again.

If you know how to backup your stuff (for me its just a case of copy steam, my desktop and my docs and its done) then its easy to reinstall ;]
