Well

Whats happening, is my computers on, and how do i explain this. You know when you turn you computer off, shut it down etc, just before it turns itself off you get a "click" then it shuts down. Well my computer is clicking, like its trying to shut itself down but it dont, carries on working, then it just freezes up and i have to turn it off via the off button.

Any ideas anyone? whats fucked?

Oh, and its been like this for ages. Ive got 4 slots for ram on my motherboard. I used to have 4 sticks of 512 in em, ie 2gig. Now, it only lets me take 1 stick, if im lucky maybe 2 sticks. Ive tried all the sticks on there own and they all work fine. Like i said, i used to have em all running together, they are all the same, ddr400 etc. Computer just wont boot up with 3-4 sticks in there, no beeps or anything, monitor just wont turn on.

My money is on my motherboard is on its way out, thats just me guessing.

Any help much appreciated

my first guess is your motherboard is half dead.. especially if it cant see the ram...

i would also check the bios though as corpse has suggested...

Hoovers make a crap load of static charge, and I'm guessing when you took your cards out you didn't place them on a static-safe surface (not your carpet!)

if the bat was dead you would just have your bios reset every time you started the thing up...

This could explain the missing ram, but it would not explain failing to shutdown

And just clicking through program files, deasktop stuff etc, getting the little torch come up for about 10 secs (searching) which never hapened before.

As i speak now, my photos and music is going onto disks

you need to make sure you have the latest version of uguru software installed, from that software you can use the 1 click live bios update uguru info

*edit

make sure you have enough electric on the meter before it starts

Manufacturers recommend only flashing your bios when there is a needed update to resolve an issue you are experiencing - If you do not need to update the version, do not flash your bios.

afaik bios corruption is impossible - and even if it were corrupted, your computer would not even start
