Online gaming: PC vs consoles - which is better?

im arguing for PCs, however i need some more ideas and thoughts....

if you agree that PC gaming online is better than Console gaming online...

please tell me why you agree... plz give reasons thoughts and whatever else you may have on the subject...it can be about hardware,software etc

consoles are not upgradable so over the years a console will be absolote while your pc will have been upgraded to play all the latest games.

Game play wise, there are certain games i wouldnt buy on a console, like GTA and FPS games, as playing these games with controller is a load of shit compared to a mouse and keyboard. Yes i know you can get mice and keyboards for your console, but they dont come as standard do they, same as youo can get controllers for a pc but they never come as standard.

consoles suck cock, the only one thing i like is fifa or pro eve. thats it. U are so limited in what u can do with a console, PC's rule. ask any nerd!!!

consoles are only good for beat em ups and driving games.

That's what they were designed for.

The only other reason to support consoles is that is gives software developers a standard so that they know what hardware to design their games to.

The PC, however, is flexible, adaptable and upgradable. This means that they can be made to act like consoles for beat em ups and driving games simply by adding a suitable controller and they come into their own with things like simulation games, RPG and Strategy where the controls tend to be more complicated.

PCs also allow game companies to continually innovate new technology as better and better hardware is invented rather than waiting for the next generation to be designed and manufactured together.

To me it depends on the circumstances, if you have mates round a console is a lot more accessible to everyone, but if you are on your own a pc interfaces better with most types of games and can deal with more complexity. Its like the difference between a book and going to the cinema.

my point of view is this:

PC wins over consoles for a few reasons....

PC's are what push hardware and software development. If you want it 1st, you need a PC.

Pretty much all modern game engine stuff was on PC 1st, as all the latest technologie pushing games are on PC 1st.

However, some consoles (notably xbox) allow easy porting from PC to "console" format - recent examples are orange box - this is due to the console's hardware pretty much being a PC and the console using PC technologies like DirectX... you should be able to pull up the xbox hardware specs.

You can swap/upgrade/change hardware in a pc where as if something breaks in a console, you cant change it (normally).

It is also not possible to update core hardware of the consoles because the games are written for a hardware specific platform (the console itself)

Because console hardware is often more expensive than general PC hardware, nearly (if not all) consoles are sold at a loss to the manufacturer. This causes them to have to make up the money in games sales - which is why console games are so damn expensive.

This is a dirty trick though - since after you have made-up the cost after buying a few games - you still have to pay the extra overheads on your future purchases.

With PC's the hardware is not connected to the software in terms of sales (unless your dumb enough to buy a mac) so you can buy a cheap-ass PC and pay £30 for a game, or buy a £5k PC and pay £30 for a game.

when you update your PC you can still play all of your old games - even if they are written for a different platform/OS. - with consoles the best you have is the ability to play "last generation" games by the same manufacturer.

With PCs when games are released they are released to the whole market, not just for people who specifically have an xbox, a playstation.. etc...

Consoles often have lower quality games - bad games on the PC simply dont sell so nobody bothers to make cheap crap. This means the amount of new games coming out on the PC is often slow, but the games are normally a very high quality... good examples of this is when someone has the bright idea to port a pure console game to PC... I don't think there has ever been a successful PC game been produced this way (can you think of one?)

Consoles often have stupid "controllers" where as the PC can have specialised gaming keyboards and mice... a great example of this is when some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to port the original C&C to playstation... i remember watching someone try and play it and loling. They even had to change most of the missions because you simply cannot play it with a controller.

and thats pretty much all i can think of..

to sum it up:

Consoles are shit, they con you out of money, and you will NEVER have the "latest, best and most original" when you own a console.

these are all interesting points and will help me very much however, they lack the critical element, that is why are PCS better at online gaming?compared to consoles...

well, most of the stuff still applies.. like shit games... bad controllers.. expensive etc...

Console's are tied into services such as xbox live which needs a subscription fee....

there are no privately hosted servers for console games......

PC's you can use other gaming software like teamspeak and TS overlay... even xfire if your a FREAK...

No private (passworded... clan match servers) dedicated console servers... they are either P2P or non-private... p2p = slow.

there are more annoying little FREAKS on consoles, since thats what they ask mommy for xmas...

etc etc

Consoles pwn for when mates are around, still play mariokart 64 when I'm down at my mates house, we all sit around the 64 and laugh our heads off for an hour xD

for games like GTA, NFS, PGR etc etc its a must on consoles, trying to play a racing game on the pc is like trying to play css on a sega mega drive. FPS can be played on either i think, well i have medal of honor, black, hitman, matrix etc on the ps2 and i can play css, cod etc on the pc.
