So i got my loan the other day and im going to start to upgrading my current pc from

Old slow asus mobo
Prescot 3.2 ghz processor
2 gig of ddr 400 ram
6600 256mb
300watt generic psu
2 x 250 hdd
2 x dvd rw

To this

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
GeIL 2GB ( 2x1GB ) PC6400C4
Scythe Infinity CPU Cooler
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB
OCZ GameXStream 600w


Can anyone give me any advice on changes i might want to make to any of the above ( quad core over dual and power of the psu.. ) and what i should buy first? ( I want to spread out the cost so i don't become skint over night and my wages can offset that sinking feeling )

Heh. Comes from living the last part of last year scrounging for cash down the back of the sofa and wishing i'd lived out of the centre.

Stick your entire loan on Arsenal to beat West Ham @ 5/6 (BlueSquare) this saturday then you can upgrade to your hearts content*. That BFG card could just as easy be 768mb, 4 gb of ram perhaps?

Oh right. Wasn't aware that there were new ones. I liked the Evga 90 day step up system. But i guess i don't really play any games that'll benifit from a better card.

"wait until next year" indeed - or buy a high-end gaming rig now and have it last you 4 years.

there will always be something "new" and "faster".. its been that way since the birth of computing.

unless you make the big $, "second best" hardware is something you need to get used to.

this is not far off my build actually but i dont have a quad core, just dual core (does whatever i need it to do) you might need better cooling as they can generate quite some heat. i also have exactly the same gfx card and im looking to get a 2nd one at some point.

dont know what your willing to spend but if your like me and see it as ''its only a fiver more'' but i say that with everything and it ended up being about £100+ extra lol

Perhaps, or maybe you just feel like being a turd for a day. What I've heard is these cards are going to be cheaper than the current 8 series. For that reason, I see it beng something worth waiting for. I am very aware at the speed with which computers become obsolete.

I reckon you should invest in a slightly better PSU, too, Rushia. 750w should be plenty. Also, what case are you getting? It pays off to spend a lil' more and get a decent one.
