Well some may know and some may not but, my x1950 died on me a few months back and i'm planning to get a new graphics card this weekend xD and once again i'm not which card to buy

The 2 main cards i'm looking at are the:
ATI X1950XT 256mb
and
Nvidia 8600GTS 256mb

The 8600gts has 32 stream processors with 2000mhz memory frequency and 675 core

x1950xt has 48 stream dickheads
with 625mhz core clock and 1800mhz memory...

So... nvidia and ati fan boys start ur arguing xD

Think Itchy needs to be starting to pay consultancy fee's cause the only time we see or hear from him is when somethings not working

its not got that much b33f behind it though as its dx10 big brothers....

see if you can save up for the 8800

TBO no not yet - V64 is even worse than V32 for drivers and you will have to do a clean install anyway to avoid all manner of problems. The only Vista Upgrade I have got to work was on a empty machine running a new install of XP.

I would wait for Vista SP1 towards the end of October allegedly before even considering Vista for what you do. According to the true figures its a major flop anyway, people are buying cheap boxes pre-installed with Vista and overwriting the drive with XP, chucking Vista away.

I have been running Vista 32 for 18 months now and I could not use it as a main PC it is too unreliable, my printer still will not work, or my ATi Viideo Cards and thats just scratching the surface. I think they rushed it out, its not ready, it never will be and personally am going to wait for the next Windows (Vienna) due 2009 which will have all the stuff Vista does not and be an entirely new codebase as opposed to the ridiculous jumble of junk lobbed on to Win95 over the years to end up with Vista

I guess you could try it but do a full image with Acronis first so you can restore your original system

u missed the most important part, vista is made for dx10. u cant run dx10 from xp.
so if ur getting a dx10 card u want a dx10 machine right?
so u gonna wait till 2009 to play dx10 games on ur pc?
yeah i think ill get my amiga out too.

No, you should still take the Nvidia. ATi sucks shit, and the Nvidia card is better anyway.

ATI does seem to have way too many simple problems associated with although i've never had nvidea so can't make a proper comparison. Seriously thinking my new card will be NVidea tbh
