In options under the video tag in HL2 I can adjust the brightness level of the game to reduce the shadows and stand more chance of spotting the potential bushwhackers.
However, in CSS the adjust birghtness button is not avalaible? i.e. its there but you cant use it.

aaah my old card i just got a new 1 anyway i hav no idea its definatly not the card i just got mine upgraded from that its prob to do with css i hav no idea atm though

mat_fullbright 1 is the command I couldn't remember yesterday. That will brighten everything up no end.

I think the idea is that you can't alter it that much to allow lurking. I however had a monitor with a "night movie" mode that does a rather good job.

thats a cheat....
to set the brightness you need the command mat_monitorgammer, or just use the brightness option in the menu - they both do the same thing

that only normaly happens when your playing in a window.
if your playing in a window, the game will have to use the brightness of your desktop.
