Map Cycle Changes

Map cycle on the KM server is very good. It is diverse and has a few brilliant custom maps. However there is room for improvement.

A few KM members on TS suggested that it would be a good idea to run a vote on which maps should be added to mapcycle and possibly another parallel vote on which maps should be removed.

However, before running the vote, I recon it would be a good idea to ask people which maps they want to nominate for the votes. Admins who will be in charge of this later can then compile a final vote using these results.

My recommendations:

To add:
de_cpl_mill
[If you are recommending a map to add, please try and include a link to the site where this map can be downloaded from.]

To remove:
cs_havanna

P.S. Since this isn't the actual vote, to keep the topic tidy, please, DO NOT post maps, which have already been mentioned by somebody earlier in the topic.

You can also see what maps people hate by just looking at the server population history:

That graph points out that people don't like Losttemple and Prodigy and then started to rejoin when Havana came on?

Also the time of day - the kids join as they get out of school and play for a few minutes then leave.

Using the stats to decide which maps people hate may not be a good idea...

We gonna pull dust2?

That was a graph for Sunday. And you aren't reading it right.

You read the graph by looking at the middle of the bars.

I.e. There were roughly 16 players on prodigy and that dropped to roughly 6 on havanna. That went up to about 10-12 during twilight and hit 20 on italy. This way you take the average number of players on the map. Because if you think about it, people were playing prodigy and by the end of the map there was a map vote. Havanna was decided to be next. Lots of people decided to quit. ^_^ On the contratry, during twilight, people joined in, checked next map and saw it is italy, so they decided to stay.

I.e. About 16-18 people on losttemple and then slighlty more on dust2 (20-22). Afterwards there is a drop to 16-18 on de_contra. Therefore, we can conclude that both losttemple and contra are quite popular custom maps.

I am not saying this is the ultimate statistic for determining the map popularity, but it gives a rough idea of what's going on.

Huh?

Why? The graph shows the number of players, at the start of the map, during play and at the end. Taking the middle is just arbitary, why not look at the figure at 10% of map play, or 60%, or when the map vote has been called?

Prodigy started out with 16 players and decreased whilst it was being played, until it ended with approximately 9 players.

Havana started with a bad number of players following on from Prodigy, but then started to pick up because people joined to play Havana. Maybe Havana was choosen from the map vote, then people looked at the time and decided to leave.

This shows that Dust2 started with about 20, increased to 22 and then started to drop to 18 at the end, because people get bored of playing Dust2.

These graphs mean very little, and are just the same as any other statistics and can be read a number of ways. There are lots of factors that can't be seen such as what was voted for during these cycles, who left and who joined, etc.

Havana rocks

2 Husband.

Yea, now I see what you mean. My point is, though, that by taking the middle you have a good estimation of the map popularity (taking into account that you do it during the popular server hours). I took the middle because, if the map before wasn't popular it takes time for people to join, and if the map was played for too long (like you said about dust2) or there is a crap map next in the cycle, then people will start leaving.

Of course, like you said, that is a crude estimation and by no means does it include all those factors you mentioned in your post... but it is still an estimate. And if there are 20 people and italy and 4 on havanna it definitely means something.

but none of that really matters, as the graphs are off and have no real way of showing the maps that ppl like or dont like.. most of the maps played there are voted for, the fall of ppl on the map could be for several differant things not just cos they dont like the maps.. the fairest way is to bring back the mapvote
