Can't go wrong with a sony.

It depends what you are looking for... Do you want to make your ears bleed or have good quality sound?

Here are some suggestions

SONY CMT CPZ1

Bit over but worth the dosh.. Looks nice too.

SONY CMT CP555

Basicaly the same just different looks.

JVC UXG45

Slightly cheaper JVC model.. slightly louder less functions

LG LF-D7150

A 2 speaker dvd system with 160w should me more than loud enough.

All these systems are quite loud.. I have 2 sets of speakers.. Roland montior speakers only rated at 20w per speaker and a technics system rated at 360 total (+150w pioneer sub).. The Rolands fill a 10x15 ft room without the volume half way and the technics.. well they make me feel sick..

Most systems have good quality sound so i'd look for features and the ablility to plug in an mps player or a laptop or whatever you might have.

Sony are good tho, ive got an amp which is about 30 years old and still working fine. Dont buy anything like alba, bush, or goodmans, wont last 5 mins. Go for denon, marantz, or even a bang & olsen

My amp is a Yamaha, a good one too imo.
I agree with SD, you'd pay for the Sony logo.
Marantz or Denon is usually ace though.

Cheers

Max

Nah i didnt buy it new, ive had it for aboout 15 years tho, nice wooden teak thingy, not very load tho, was ok when i had me decks rigged up to it tho. Ive got a denon pma255 that gives really crisp sound, paid peanuts for it a while back. And a technics new class A seperates system, was about a grand 10 odd years ago, works fine, dont even use it tho.

lol dennon and B&O... Slightly more than £150 for a mini system... Do B&O even sell stuff that is less than £1000?

Why not sugest these

Hell ... why not spend the extra 10,000 and get these

hmm i dont like the wooden cases rushia...

-i want it to have a good sound quality without having to turn the sound up to max
-have to be able to plug speakers into my laptop and mp3 player
-have to be able to customise the sound (change bass etc)
-i dont really need a stereo with like 5 cdplayers in it
-it doesnt have to go really loud, i wont be able to turn it really loud anyway as i will be in a student residence

will post if i think of something else

thanks for the help!

ive had sony for a few years now, they're grat machines, i have an HCD C7NT, couldnt find a pic, its old now but still easily competes with many systmes I hear today.

sony's a bit pricy, but if ur willing to spend the £££ then thts always the way i'd go

oh and bang and olufsen are utter pile of shit, you pay for a mediocre design and end up with a stupid unjustified bill, we have a £5000 TV and the DVD player incorporated in it does not work anymore, the TV quality is very good, but for with tht money, one can get a great sony TV (as good picure qlty) a DVD recorder and a bose sound system... so DONT BY B&O

oh and the TV wasnt bought by us

TBH - we have a JVC model (i'll look to see if i can find it and then post it) that's been gathering dust - i was going to put it on ebay but if you interested let me know.

Sound quality is good (otherwise I wouldn't have bought it).

Model - JVC UX-P7R

will be back with spec...
