Really annoying problem

For about a week I have had a serious problem with online gaming, basically if I go online in any game and spend more than half an hour playing my screen starts jerking along as if Ive got a virus scan going.

It started doing it last week, Ive since then formatted my comp and reinstalled windows, steam, BF and not a lot else. I thought it was my comp getting hot, but it holds at a steady temperature well within its safe limits.

As soon as it starts jerking I have to shut it down otherwise it gets progressively worse until I lose connection to whatever server I am on, this happens in both BF and CSS.

Since Rusky is on the same net connection as me and gets no problems Ive ruled out our connection as the cause, I have no clue as to whats causing it so I'd like a few suggestions before I decide to sell my comp and buy a PDA instead.

EDIT: Shite spelling corrected, mostly, probably.

give rusky your computer, you have hers. Problem solved

Sell it, (id get more enjoyment outta smashing it up tbh) if its your comp thats giving you grief, then id do the same. And whats a PDA?

And im still getting cannot conect to vac server shit, its become part of the game. I either live with it or lump it. Lump and dump the fucking thing i think.

heh, I'd love to smash it up, but then I think of the money I spent lol.

PDA is one of those little handheld comps like the phones with keypad etc, would be all I need without games.

And just uninstalled steam so that wont be a problem, Im making sure I get rid of the disc as well, got too annoying and no fun whatsoever, too much dodgy hitreg.

Thought BF2 was bad but CSS is just so much worse, Im bored of it tbh. I dont play games to watch people whinning about losing points or being N1 in a stupid leaderboard that means nothing.

lol gone off on a rant, anyways I think Im done with CSS its not like it used to be when everyone played for a laugh and didnt care about the points.

1st guess would be heat

hummm

you say your temps are normal, what do they peek at...

remmeber, heat will effect everything (even stuff you dont think of, like your ram) ... even if your cpu is ice cool, if your motherboard / hard drive / gpu ... overheats, it can still cause weird shit to happen.

are bf and cs the only 2 games it does it on?
does it do it on offline games?
do you notice your hard drive usage go up, hdd noises in sync wsith the stutters?
what programs do you run in the background?

Im with you jackel, its not what it used to be, ive been without it for a month and not even missed it 1 bit, a year ago i would of have. I never thought id get bored of it. I suppose the "decent" ppl that come with the game matters more, id rather stick around here chatting to ppl i know in the shoutbox and posting in the forum than play css nowdays.

Not been able to have a proper game mite have something to do with it tho.

And you dont need the disc to install css, steam etc, you can just dload it from valve.

And on the note of your problem, im with milf, take it to a pro, admitt defeat and let them sort it out.

hee hee froggy, heres my post post post

Max temps (according to what the monitors say):
Mobo 80degs
Cpu 85degs
Graphics card 1+2 85degs
Soundcard 70degs
HDD unknown

Boot up temperatures:
Mobo 28degs
Cpu 27degs
Graphics card 1 30degs
Graphics card 2 30degs
Soundcard 27degs
HDD 28degs

Running Temps in game:
Mobo 34-40degs
Cpu 37-45degs
Graphics card 1 42-60degs
Graphics card 2 42-60degs
Soundcard 35-40degs
HDD 30-35degs

I got a lot of cooling on my comp and its set up by me but I know plenty about setting this particular comp up (I read a book once )

Only does it in BF and CSS which are the only two online games I play. It runs hotter than usual with Hitman BM running but it seems to run flawlessly, just online crap that does it.

Background progs are the graphics cards monitor, my motherboard monitor, Nvidia control panel thingy, and creative control pannel. Thats it, had loads more than that running before it started playing up last week.

The pro's around here are thick as shit ( I live in Cornwall remember, wellies on for ram raiding fun baaaahhhh ), most of them dont even know how to reinstall windows. They also make a habit of damaging comps then charging for the repair with crappy parts, so I dont trust em with my comp.

Side note: We cancelled our broadband so when the contracts up we go to another provider, could it be that our isp is pissed at us and turned the speed knob (availible at ann summers) down so our connection is shit for two comps?

EDIT: Again I cannot stress how much the local comp experts are a bunch of doughnut punching window lickers.

that says to me....

network related problem??
start up css localy and see if it does it.
i think you can just pop open the console and type "map de_dust" and ital fire up - if not, use the gui. or just use it anyway.

it could still be network related (since starting localy still uses sockets/network things), but it cuts out your ISP/modem - so thats less to blame.

Thanks froggy I'll give it a go and see if a local game works any better.

I was thinking the same as you Shad the other day so I tried a different router and it doesnt seem to make any difference, still goes juddery after 30mins or so.

I noticed last night when Rusky was playing after I gave up that her game also stutters a bit after playing for a while, not as noticeable as mine but enough to make me think its our isp.

Same here Wifey, dunno what the points are used for though.

Cheers all for teh help, I'll post back when I have eliminated enough to be certain whats causing it.

Last night the server got laggy and the game was stuttering for everybody until Shadow restarted the server. I don't remenber whether you've left before or after that but maybe it was the lagging server that you've been watching on Rusky's comp.

Well Ive been running steam for most of this afternoon with CSS started locally, and not one single problem so I reckon our isp is taking the piss.

They reckon the line is running fine and at its proper speeds, asked them to increase the gain on the line but they are saying its as high as it can go *cough bullshit*. They are just punishing us for canceling our service from them when contract expires, so I wholeheartedly recommend never to go near Onetel because they are a bunch of backstabbing little gimps.

They did say that if we reported the problem 6months ago they would have cut our bill in half, which is also bollox because 6months ago I did report problems to them and they basically turned round and said "tough".

We only have a month to go with them so I'll wait it out and make do, but I have made sure that the 4 other people on our street signed up with them cancel their contracts to, then told Onetel that they lost a bunch of customers because of the service we got.

What makes me laugh is when you phone them up and they ask if I want another contract off them even though I spent ages telling them their service is crap.
