Too many custom?

I was on the server last night when a vote came up, not one of them was a "stock" valve map. I also noticed that when there was a valve map that tended to win the vote. Perhaps a few less custom in the rotation would be a good idea, nothing clears the server like a custom map.

I'm reminded of Teesside which keeps an Italy 24/7, Office 24/7 and 2 Standard map (all 40 slot) full most of the day.

I have also noticed this, its a bit of a catch 22.
As we have such a vast range of maps on the server you often end up with maps votes poping up and your thinking "I dont really want any of these maps" and end up voting for something that you would usually.

Maybe if possible we could have it so the real classics are always included in the map vote. So like Office, Dusts, Italy,...Congo are always included in the map vote so we can vote for them if nothing else in the vote is worth voting for. (How many times did I say vote )

Tbh i luv custom maps, most of em anyway. Thing is the constant deleting and formatting shit i lose em, so im fed up of dloading em all the time. 1 map i still aint played, and i have given up waiting for it.

hehe I know there are alot of posts made in a day, that's what happens when you have 40 plus members but you really should read the notes on the admin meetings, they are quite informative. For those who missed it.

Maplist
The current maplist needs some rejuventing so a review of the map and vote lists is currently taking place - this means that maps which aren't played regularly will be taken off the server and replaced with new ones.

All standard maps will stay on the server - but if you feel passionately about a particular map please post in the forums.

I love custom maps and I would like to play them more often. Many people especially publics come to the server and play for maybe half an hour. Many of them vote for the classic maps (office, dust2 etc.). Then they leave and some other people come to play for maybe half an hour and they vote again for the classics. If you spend a whole evening on the server like 3-4 hours you end up playing the same map 3 or 4 times and it's becomming really boring. I wouldn't like to have a classic map in every vote because the chance of playing a custom map is very small then. And btw most of the votings actually do include some of the classic maps. Occasions when we really have only custom maps in a voting are very rare. And btw most of the clans ( or whoever) providing servers with one map 24/7 still have another server with a map cycle on.

Personally I think we should add a few custom maps to the standard map cycle, so that if voting fails they still come at some point. I haven't played maps like 3rdstreet, courthouse and xcom for ages on KM server.

As Alex has pointed out we have had a chat about this and some solid thought will be placed into what we do next, but input is always needed.

You also have to remeber that the vote isnt on all the time, and when it is off we only play the offical maps.

The vote itself is random, so once in a while it wont pick out an offical map, and vice versa..

if you dont like the maps that are up for vote you do not have to vote. if not enough ppl will vote then it will go to the next offical map in the list!

otherwise, watch this space for updates to the list of maps.

I agree with Flame, playing the same maps over and over can get anoying...

However I would Love to play some other maps thats we dnt get to play..as often for a change i lub playing de_losttemple ive only play this like few times in a month

the bigger map the better i say!

i was thinking maybe popular stocks only for like a week and see if the server gets more traffic

and by popular stock i mean office, dust2 and maybe italy and dust and the likes

i think it would help make the server more busy and prolly more playable

But that will only make some members happy, some ppl want original some want custom thats y we have the vote system.

We don't need to go full on stock only, just limit the number of customs that pop up on a regular basis.

Personally it just bugs me as I spend say 15minutes on the server on my own waiting for it to change to something decent before anyone else joins. Ideally i'd stick it straight to office... but what can you do eh?
