Under the Windows Task Manager.. Someone told me the other day that i shouldn't have more than 20 - 30 processes running in there.. but at this moment i have 67..

Is that too many? Or normal? And is there a way to find out which ones really don't need to be there and which ones do?

Thanks.

i normaly hover around 40...
thats the the ammount of stuff i run tho

basic windows stuff probably only takes it to around 20.. maybe a bit more.

depends what kind of shit you let run...

example, if you update windows media player it will run all the network service wank and stuff which is just another (pointless) process...

you also get other bullshit like quicktime, java, adobe and real update processes running.. all of which are pointless...

if you have 67 and you have no applications open . . . .
then i would say thats a bit excessive.

post screenshots of your task manage and i will take a look at whats running...

I have 19 running at idle, Any way 60 is way too much any way time to copy and paste a bit from my coputer guide

So to get the ball rolling Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete then click on the tab Processes, this will bring up the list of processes running on windows you should see that you have ones such as explorer.exe and winlogon.exe running aswell as many others most of these processes have to run for windows to funtion properly but some others are run by backround aplications which you dont need EG ctfmon.exe is a process run by Microsoft office, yes you need this process running when you are doing any work but you dont need it when you not using MS office so you can high-light it and click end process when you dont need MS office running in the backround this will make your system run faster and free up some RAM.

3. Here are the list of sytem based Processes which you need to have running.

explorer.exe - Desktop Display and Window Display.

alg.exe - Shares internet connection between applications

spoolsv.exe - Used by Printer service.

svchost.exe - Generic Process Used by Dynamic Link Libarys (.dll)

lsass.exe - Process linked to Winlogon.exe

services.exe - In charge of running processes and ending them.

winlogon.exe - Used for loging into user accounts on windows.

csrss.exe - Related to kernels and makes intterations with programs and hardware.

smss.exe - Also related to winlogon.exe

They are most of the windows ones i listed ones which are okay to close at the top.
