This post is on behalf of riggs, who is currently without a computer for the third time in a week, he's had that many problems with his recent upgrade that its had to go back to the shop again... again.
He's onto his third motherboard (asus pci express motherboard with intel pentium 4 processor) 2 gig ram (which has been split to 4 half gig sticks and back to 2 1 gig sticks.)
The main problem he had, his old gfx card was not compatible with his old motherboard, so he had a GeForce 6600 GT gfx card fitted and had nothing but problems (which may have been down to a dodgy motherboard. His gfx card has now been changed to a Radeon x 800 gt extreme.
The reason i'm posting is to ask whether he is getting a fair deal, he has paid around £500 for this upgrade, which also includes the new tower. He also wants to know if his new radeon gfx card is as good or better than the Geforce one he was supposed to be getting.
any help would be appreciated.

My upgrade was 1 gig of ram, to go with the gig i already had, about £90, motherboard (abit av8) and procceser, (amd 64, 3500) about £230 and gfx card, atix800xt platinum, £230.
So that was round about the £550 mark, he sounds like his getting an ok deal there, not sure on the gfx card, think the GT is the lowest of the x800's, at about £120, so id say its about on par with a 6600gt.

I feel riggs' pain, I wont be on for a couple days cause I blew my mo bo up again. Yes I know pugs, I cant be trusted with my pc lol.
I built mine from scratch with help from an expert, (so I thought). Spent 340 on gfx 7800gtx ultra, 130 on mo bo epox nforce 4 sli(and Ive blown it twice without overclocking anything, any suggestions why??), 140 on 2 gigs of ddr400 ram, its got a amd 64 dual core 4200+ dont know exact cost of cpu. The whole shebang including nice 19" monitor and mx518 mouse, desk, headphones, keyboard, case etc was about £1400, yes im crying like a baby without it lol.

Riggs.. there is no need to get 220FPS.. cos your eyes cant see it!..
the human eye can only take a refresh of a max of 50-60fps and your monitor cant even show 220fps. A monitor with a refresh rate of 75hz can only show a max of 75fps, let alone the fact that you cant even see it.

this reminds me of my own computer mishap, i had a atix800xt platinum like pug's but i broke it
lol that was pretty much my range of emotions when it happened
the thing is i had a custom cooler made of a basically a solid block of aluminim and a 10000rpm fan. it was heavy as hell and one day i was moving my computer around and bumped it...the extra weight of the custom cooler snapped the processing core...
yeah it sucked, had to fork out another 450 cnd for a ati 800 all-in-wonder
so i would caution ppl about going customizing crzy on their comp
