I know this is in the wrong forum but i only done this to get as much help from yous as possible. ive done a bit of searching and i cant really find any good advice.

When i am in the server and someone mentions someones rates i always have a quick look and some have 20000, 25000 and 30000 as well as cl_updaterate 32, 60, 70, 100 and so on.

what is the best combination of these settings to use in our 100tick server? another thing is i have 4mb cable broadband. is this a factor that would come into play when choosing the best rates?

another thing, what happens if you dont have the optimum rates?

thanks folks

call me a noob and i will blame itchy

Those more in the know than me will correct me if I am wrong but.....

cl_updaterate & cl_cmdrate should be at 100 because the server is at 100 tick.

The Rate should be around 25000 ish. This depends on your internet speed and may need tweaking

Anyone who moans about rates on the server is:

A noob looking for an excuse.

Our current setup enforces rates to a standard where even lower than default rates should still produce smooth updates to the server.

You should only look at rates if:

1) Somebody seams to have a spoofed latency
2) Somebody is very jittery (and even then its only something that may help)
3) To lie to yourself about your skill

If you wish to take full advantage of our 100tick server, and if there was no rate forcing in effect, the needed settings would be:

cl_updaterate 100
cl_cmdrate 100
rate 30000

I would recommend these settings as your "default" even when playing on non-100tick-servers as it pretty much guarantees you'll at least try and get every bit of data the server has to offer (which in-turn creates the smoothest/best reg game)

I was feeling left out till then xD

So what do I blame when I have blood on the enemies head and I get no hit.

I know it's not rates but I've never know who to blame.

Shouldn't there at least have been some sort of vote?

I know it would just be a formality but still...
